Day 16: Oh hoppy day!
Sorry that I havent been posting… no news is good news I guess! Also, I am trying to catch up on my work which has been piling up since Marlie’s surgery on the 5th.
My original plan was to post today that I was worried that Marlie was low (er) energy than usual and was not interesting in playing or getting up to be petted over the last few days. She still was getting up when she had to go outside and when it was dinner time, but otherwise she was pretty much laying on a bed doing nothing. I was worried that she was on drug withdrawal ( she’s off all the pain meds now) in pain, or that her cancer had spread.
Well, today, I left for work a bit later than I have been for the last week…and it seems like whatever was going on over the last three days either is over ( or wasnt there to begin with…and I just wasnt around her at the right times). She was hopping all over the house this morning, hopped to the window when the mailman came to the door, and ( i think the first time since surgery) was playing with her toys and wagging her tail! Phew! I almost cried when she was wagging her tail! Of course, as soon as I picked up my camera to take a video of her playing, she stopped.
Currently we are waiting for the chemo to come in to our vet’s office from Ohio State so she can start it. My hope is that we can start this Friday… I am worried about leaving it too long. Following consulting our vet, a hollistic specialist, and from reading the Dog Cancer Survival Guide, I have decided on a mixed method for treatment: I purchased K9 Immunity Plus, Omega 3 supplements, artemisinim, and Bee Pollen to work with the Carboplatin chemo. Im also going to try natural sources to beat the chemo side effects before I get more meds. Marlie doesnt really care which method we take, as long as she gets ice cream or peanut butter!
Hoppy Thanksgiving to everyone in the US– we dont get turkey this weekend up here, although I may splurge on some turkey necks for the pups.
Hello to Miss Marlie! So glad to read a hoppy post from you.
I’m sure the blahs were just her way of saving energy and getting ready for the upcoming holidays. I read a lot more into the physical changes in our dog too… you’re not alone on that one!
It sounds like you’ve got a great plan in place for Marlie to kick cancer in the butt! I should mention that it was months after we had Hunter on Artemisinin that we found this out…. but by adding Butyrex to your Artemisinin it actually boosts its effectiveness. I buy it at Amazon.com (T.E.Neesby – Butyrex Cal/Mag, 600 mg, 250 capsules)
With Marlie being so little, she wouldn’t need much. Hunter is 70 lbs. and he gets 4 capsules a day with his Arte.
And there is a Artemisinin forum that you could join too if you want. It’s a Yahoo Group (http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/artemisinin_and_cancer/join)
Ok… maybe that too much information!! 🙂
Here’s wishing Marlie and your entire family continued success!
as yes! the butyrex. I ordered that one as well– and i have joined the yahoo group already! no wonder i am so far behind at work!
It does sound like you have a great plan in place for Marlie to kick some cancer butt! Thanks for posting the link that yahoo group too! Good info!
We agree that the “full spectrum” approach is best, so good job! With all of your bases covered, no matter what you know that you’re giving this everything you can give. And remember we are always here cheering you on too!
